Nutritionists note:
Whilst this male has clear need of weight loss due to obesity and is at risk of related complications, a healthful approach must be taken. This will involve a strict low GL, low saturated fat diet with a high protein but low simple carbohydrate consumption. This type of diet will be helpful not only over short periods, but throughout the duration of his weight loss regime.  In addition, management of when calories are consumed will be beneficial. Hence, this male’s main caloric intake will be from breakfast and morning meals, with lowest caloric intake in the late afternoon and evening periods.  Supplementation of protein at appropriate times will assist this aspect of the diet and also hunger pangs. In addition, a strict exercise program must be designed.

*Body Mass Index (BMI): is a statistical measure of body weight based on a person's weight and height. Though it does not actually measure the percentage of body fat, it is used to estimate a healthy body weight based on a person's height. The formula for Body mass Index is:
BMI = Mass (kg)/Height2 (m)

^Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR): is the minimum calorific requirement needed to sustain life in a resting individual. It can be looked at as being the amount of energy (measured in calories) expended by the body to remain in bed asleep all day.  BMR is the largest factor in determining overall metabolic rate and how many calories you need to maintain, lose or gain weight. BMR is determined by a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
